What a wonderful day of sewing, laughing and getting to know each other was had!   Nineteen wonderful and generous members stayed to create lap quilts and blankets to donate on PenWAG’s behalf to organizations that help women and children in our community.

Lona Ingraham and a worthy team created 48 pairs of flip-flops for Next Door Solutions, an organization that shelters battered women and their children.  These brave families usually leave their difficult circumstances with the clothes on their backs.  PenWAG helped them last year with their Holiday Boutique where mothers and children could, at no cost, select gifts for each other.

Sue Keys did yeoman’s duty buying mountains of fleece to make lap blankets for women undergoing chemo therapy at the Dorothy E. Schneider Cancer Center.  Much to Sue’s husband’s chagrin she then brought the 90 finished blankets home to deliver to the center.  See the photos of piles of finish quilts that Sue delivered.  Amazing!

Leilani Bennett held court over a group that made pieced quilts for preemie’s at the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  We made both fleece blankets as well as quilt tops.  These quilts are still in progress.  If you are interested in making or finishing some at home, please email Leilani at leilanibennett@kraemersw.com to find out details of the project.   We would like to donate at least 18 quilts by the holidays.
