Lecture:  Textile Travels

Jackie Snell will give a trunk show of Indonesian and Malaysian textiles.  Most of these beautiful textiles were acquired during stays in these two neighboring countries.  Included in the collection are ikats, batiks, supplementary weft weaves, and contemporary fabrics for kebayas.

Jackie Snell is a professor of business who has been interested in ethnic textiles for several decades.  She spent an academic year in Malaysia, teaching at the Universiti Putra Malaysia about 15 miles south of Kuala Lumpur.  During the academic year she traveled to various parts of mainland Malaysia, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah (states of Malaysia that share the island of Borneo with Indonesia and Brunei) several times.  She spent time in Bali and Java (Indonesia) in 1990 and 2004, and in Java, Sumatra, and Sarawak in 2008.
