web-Jean Cacicedo-fabricLecture: Creating the Obiko Archive

This project documents the work of 25 art-to-wear designers whose works were created during the 1980s and 90s for the store Obiko in San Francisco. Jean and her good friend Ana Lisa Hedstrom collected historical data and film footage from Obiko fashion shows for this incredible archive.  Many of us saw the silent DVD at the Museum of Quilts and Textiles during their Metamorphosis: Clothing & Identity show. Jean will give us a behind the scenes tour.

Workshop: Composition through Colorweb-Jean Cacicedo-Green web-Jean Cacicedo-Gray-blk-red -Jean Cacicedo-3

This workshop is ideal for all who love design and want to further their artistic expression in any medium. The workshop begins with a few writing and drawing exercises that will guide our imagination for developing a theme for our projects. Discussions throughout the workshop will provide information on how we can better define, develop and sustain our art making.

We will work with color fabrics that have been fused, creating “iron on” collage studies. These 8 1/2”x 11” finished collages will explore the basic design principles of composition, color saturation, hue and shade.

Jean will guide us through the understanding of color composition as it applies to the theory of Notan.  Notan is the design study of dark and light principles. Using Notan in our designs can provide us with a better understanding of all design, visually seen by the placement of pattern and shape.  Jean is an excellent teacher and this is a must take class!
