04-2014-Arnold 2Melissa has been working in surface design on fabric for over 30 years. She is a dyer, weaver and spinner but most of all, a Shibori and Indigo dyer. She also works in devore, a burn out process on cellulose fiber. Since 2003 she has collaborated with California designer Catherine Bacon and was in the Spring 2005 Ornament magazine in an article on Ms Bacon’s work featuring Melissa’s fabrics. She fell in love with Nuno felting in 2005 and has added felting to her approach to altering fabric.

Saturday Workshop: Fabulous Felt Accessories

Description: In this 4 hour workshop learn to create a Fabulous Felted Textured Collar OR Cuffs. We will explore various design options thru the use of Collaging, Layering, and Free Motion Stitching and then wet felting the pieces.

Sunday Workshop: From the Sublime to Wabi Sabi: The Art of Pieced Textiles

Description: In this one day workshop, we will go through Melissa’s design process of piecing textiles together to create an exciting new piece of cloth. We will explore placement, color relationships, shapes, and construction methods. By working with smaller samples, students will begin to see the design process unfold.
